I dreamt the dream again last night

Nashwaak River
Kayaker enjoying a summer day on the Nashwaak

I dreamt the dream again last night,
the one that sets me free,
where my soul and Stream unite
in wistful reverie.

I kneel inside my silent craft,
afloat in forest verdant,
steering with my supple shaft
in the quickening current.

I paddle on the river's breast,
its blue and shimm'ring jewel,
continuing my timeless quest
for wisdom and renewal.

Sunny summer days unfold
one into the other,
each replete with joys untold,
like a secret lover.

And when I reach the river's end,
without a moment's warning,
a new stream leads around the bend,
to float my boat til morning.
